In a statement by the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in order to combat fraud and improve consumer protection, (MCMC) has introduced new regulations for Application-to-Person (A2P) SMS messaging. Effective September 1, 2024, all SMS messages sent to Malaysia that contain any of the following content in the message body will be blocked:

  • Mobile or fixed-line phone numbers
  • Requests for a person’s personal information (e.g. name, identification number, card number, bank account number, etc.)
  • URLs

Therefore, in response to the recent restrictions set by (MCMC), Eber will be implementing a new text format for our clients. This format will exclude sensitive information such as hyperlinks, personal information requests, and callback numbers. Specifically, we will be removing URLs from all default text message formats. This adjustment will help ensure that our clients’ business practices remain compliant with local rules and regulations.
